KOCHI: The upcoming meeting of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) will discuss the proposals introduced by the producers' association as part of efforts to curb drug use in the Malayalam film industry. The general body meeting of AMMA is scheduled to be held in Kochi on the 22nd of this month. The meeting will also elect the new office-bearers of the organisation.
The producers’ association has suggested urgent action, especially with agencies like the Narcotics Control Bureau becoming involved. One of the main proposals is to make all film industry workers sign an affidavit stating that they will not use banned substances in film-related environments.
This rule will apply to everyone working in the film sector, including actors and crew members. The plan is to implement the new guideline from June 26, which marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse. Producers have asked AMMA to respond to the proposals by June 24. There have been several instances where actors and technicians were caught in drug-related cases.
The affidavit to be signed states that banned substances will not be used at film locations, during shooting, or at accommodation facilities. It also specifies that if the producer suffers any loss due to the use of banned substances by an individual, that person will be held liable for compensation. This affidavit will form part of the payment contract signed with collaborators on the film. Meanwhile, there have also been discussions regarding Mohanlal possibly continuing as the president of the organisation.
