THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All educational institutions in Idukki district, including professional colleges, will remain closed tomorrow due to continuous heavy rainfall. The decision was announced by the District Collector in view of the worsening weather conditions. An orange alert has been issued for the district for both today and tomorrow, anticipating further intensification of rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rainfall, which refers to rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm within 24 hours. Apart from Idukki, an orange alert has been declared for Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts. There is also a warning for heavy rainfall in Idukki within the next three hours.

A cyclonic circulation has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and the coastal regions of northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha. This system is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours. Due to this development, Kerala is expected to receive significant rainfall over the next five days, according to the weather department. From June 26 to 28, wind speeds over Kerala may reach up to 40–50 km/h. The IMD has also advised against fishing activities along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts today and tomorrow due to rough sea conditions.
