Following complaints that students from the Kerala syllabus were falling behind, changes were made to the existing mark normalisation system. The results were declared today based on the revised method. The cabinet had recently decided to adopt the Tamil Nadu model.
As per the new system, only the board exam results of students who wrote the entrance exam will be considered for normalisation. Until now, normalisation was done using marks from 18 state boards, including Jammu & Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, as well as foreign boards such as Cambridge. There was a significant disparity in valuation between boards that were strict in awarding marks and Kerala, which was more liberal. As a result, students from Kerala who scored high marks were ranked lower in the entrance exam. The new system aims to address this issue. It is being implemented based on the recommendations of a committee comprising statistics experts.
