POTHENCODE: 24 people were attacked by a stray dog in the capital city on Thursday. Migrant workers, locals and passengers were injured in the dog attack, and all of them sought treatment at the Medical College Hospital. The incident took place at 7 pm on Thursday. The mangy dog, ambling from Pothencode to Poolanthara, chased and attacked everyone it saw on the road. Three of the bitten people were women. All the bites came on the legs of the victims.
The injured migrant workers, Ojideen, Deepan, Manoj Chauhan, Chandan Rai, Ansur, Garang, Arpithan, Naufal, and Mini (44) of Pothencode Chathanpadu, were admitted to the hospital. Subsequently, after a search by the panchayat authorities and health workers, the dog was caught in Pothencode.
The dog will be kept in a shelter and observed. Rabies can be confirmed only if the dog dies. Moreover, the examination will be conducted at the State Institute for Animal Diseases Laboratory operating in Palode. From today, street dogs within the panchayat limits will be vaccinated against rabies, said Grama Panchayat President T.R. Anilkumar.
