THRISSUR: A woman who suffered severe injuries in a house fire and explosion caused by a gas leak in Vellangallur, Irinjalakuda, has died while undergoing treatment. Jayasree (60), wife of Raveendran from Erumathadam in Vellangallur, passed away early this morning at Jubilee Mission Hospital in Thrissur. Her body will be taken to Vellangallur after the post-mortem.

The incident took place around 2 PM the other day when Jayasree and her husband returned home after attending a birthday function at a relative’s house in Cherpu. The explosion occurred when they switched on a light inside the house.

Although the gas cylinders were placed outside, it is suspected that leaked gas had filled the house. When the light was turned on, it triggered an explosion. Raveendran is still undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ernakulam.

The blast caused heavy damage to the house, including the destruction of the front iron gate. Since the gas had spread to all rooms, the house was engulfed in flames, leading to extensive destruction. Irinjalakuda fire force and police arrived at the scene soon after the incident.
