Four members elected to three Devaswom Boards

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Four new members have been elected to the Travancore, Cochin, and Malabar Devaswom Boards. P.D. Santosh Kumar has been appointed to the Travancore Board, K.K. Suresh Babu to the Cochin Board, and O.K. Vasu and K.N. Udayan to the Malabar Board. Udayan represents the CPI, while the other three are representatives of the CPM.

The vacancies included one Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe member each for the Travancore and Cochin Boards, and two general category members for the Malabar Devaswom Board. These members were elected by Hindu MLAs through a voting process.

There were no opposing candidates. Following scrutiny of the nomination papers, the Returning Officer, retired District and Sessions Judge M. Rajendran Nair, declared them elected.

P.D. Santosh Kumar, elected to the Travancore Devaswom Board, is a member of the Mannar Area Committee of the CPIM. He also serves as President of the Perissery Co-operative Bank and is a member of the PKS state committee. He is a former member of the Puliyoor Grama Panchayat.

K.K. Suresh Babu, elected to the Cochin Devaswom Board, is the district secretary of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Committee, a former member of the Kumbalangi Panchayat, and the area secretary of the CITU Building Workers’ Union.

O.K. Vasu, elected to the Malabar Devaswom Board, previously served as its president. Once the district president of the BJP, he joined the CPM in 2014 and is currently a member of the party’s Panoor Area Committee.

K.N. Udayan, the other member elected to the Malabar Devaswom Board, is a member of the CPI Malappuram District Council and a member of the AITUC state committee.
