KOCHI: Following heavy rainfall, district collectors declared a holiday for educational institutions in two districts of the state on Friday. The holiday will apply to educational institutions, including professional colleges in Ernakulam and Idukki districts.

Ernakulam

Given the orange alert declared in the district and strong winds and rains, all educational institutions, including professional colleges, will be closed on Friday (July 25). The holiday will apply to Anganwadis and tuition centres.

Idukki:

The District Collector announced that all educational institutions, including professional colleges, in the district will remain closed tomorrow in view of the Central Meteorological Department's forecast of heavy rain and strong winds in the coming days. The holiday applies to all educational institutions, including Anganwadis, Madrasas, Tuition Centres, Training Institutes, and Kendriya Vidyalayas.

The holiday is also applicable to residential educational institutions. The notification also states that the heads of educational institutions should take alternative steps to make up for the lost time. Introducing online classes is also preferable.

The decision is made considering the safety of the students. The Collector requested all students to stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel.
