Viper bites youth on way to railway station

CHERTHALA: A youth was bitten by a viper on his way to the railway station in Cherthala. The viper bit Jayaraj (26), son of Jayakumar of Uthradom house in Cherthala Municipality’s 23rd ward, at 3 am on Saturday when he was going to the station to board the Guruvayur Express. He was immediately taken to Cherthala Taluk Hospital and later to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.

The youth is under treatment in the intensive care unit. He was bitten when he stepped on the viper lying there while coming through the alley to board the train. It was initially stated that construction work was going on in the station and that he was bitten from here. However, the railways said that he was bitten on his way to the railway station. The railways have registered a case in the incident. Jayaraj, a B.Tech graduate had completed his training in ISRO. He was going to the station with two of his friends to board the train to Kannur to attend his friend’s wedding in Kannur.
