KANNUR: CCTV footage of Govindachamy escaping from Kannur Central Jail has been released. The video includes footage captured by a camera in the corridor outside the cell in the jail. Govindachamy can be seen cutting the bars at the bottom of the cell, crawling out through the floor and taking out items including clothes.
Govindachamy is seen coming back twice after leaving the cell and carrying things. He escaped at 1.15 am on July 25. He can be seen walking very casually towards the big wall in the second footage. It is reported that there was no employee in the prison to monitor the CCTV footage. No prison employees on guard duty can be seen in the CCTV footage. All of Govindachamy's movements from 1.10 am to 4.15 am are caught on the prison cameras.
There is also a strong allegation that Govindachamy was kept in an unsecured cell. This is a cell with only rusty and corroded bars. A picture of the prison where Govindachamy was kept has also been released. The bars at the bottom of cell 10B in block 10 have been cut. The bars have been tied with thread so that it is not obvious that they have been cut. The dummy made by Govindachamy using cloth and a pillow can also be seen inside the cell. The footage clearly shows Govindachamy standing near a tree inside the prison compound until 4.15 am on Friday. It is believed that his fellow prisoners were aware of the prison break, and he did not receive any other help. Govindachamy, who escaped from his cell at 1.15 am, jumped over the prison wall just after 4 am.
