KOCHI: Actor Salim Kumar said that women should take on leadership positions in AMMA, the actors' association. He said that women should take up the posts of President and General Secretary, and if that happens, it would send a positive message to society. However, he did not respond when asked whether those facing allegations would contest.
July 31st is the last date for withdrawing nominations for the AMMA elections. The final list of candidates will be published tomorrow at 4 PM, and the election will be held on August 15.
Shweta Menon, Devan, and Anoop Chandran are the candidates for the post of President. Although Jagadish, Jayan Cherthala, and Raveendran had filed nominations, they have reportedly withdrawn. Jagadish is in favour of having a woman President. He has earlier stated that he would withdraw his nomination if Mohanlal and Mammootty agreed to this stance, and he has already spoken with them about it.
Most actors are also demanding that Baburaj, who is facing allegations, should not contest for the post of General Secretary. However, Baburaj has maintained that he will not withdraw from the contest.
Devan has also clarified that he will not withdraw from the presidential race. He said that he decided to contest only because Mohanlal, whom he had hoped would stand for President, was not contesting. Devan also remarked that the issues related to the election are minor and that AMMA is often misunderstood as an organisation.
