NEW DELHI: After being released from Durg Central Jail, the two nuns were escorted by police to a vehicle arranged by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Kerala BJP State President. Upon their release, the nuns, who appeared expressionless, were warmly greeted with hugs by their relatives and fellow nuns.
Rajya Sabha MPs Jebi Mather, Jose K. Mani, John Brittas, P. Santosh Kumar, MLAs Roji M. John, Chandy Oommen, Anwar Sadath, BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and leaders Anoop Antony and Shaun George were present outside the jail to receive them.
The slogan 'Hindu – Muslim – Sikh Bhai Bhai' echoed outside the premises.
As soon as the news of bail surfaced in the morning, Left MPs John Brittas and P. Santosh Kumar distributed sweets outside the jail.
Cot provided on the eighth day
The nuns, who were arrested on Friday, received a cot only on the eighth day of their imprisonment. Despite having health issues, they had been sleeping on the bare floor. It was only after persistent demands from Left, Right, and BJP leaders from Kerala that jail authorities arranged for a cot.
Bajrang Dal threats alleged
Three girls who were with the nuns lodged a formal complaint with the police, alleging that Bajrang Dal leader Jyoti Sharma and other activists had threatened them. They claimed the activists pressured them to say they were forced into religious conversion and were victims of human trafficking. The girls also alleged that Bajrang Dal members physically assaulted them.
