Strong rain and wind in the next three hours; possibility of landslides, alert issued in four districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Disaster Management Department has warned of the possibility of landslides and mudslides in four districts of Kerala in the next three hours. The warning states that people should avoid non-essential travel and remain in safe areas.

The Central Meteorological Department has informed that according to the latest radar images, moderate/heavy rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph are likely in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam (Orange Alert: next three hours only) districts of Kerala.

* Waterlogging on main roads / blurred vision in vehicles may cause traffic congestion.

* Waterlogging/flooding in low-lying areas and river banks is possible.

* Falling trees may lead to power disruption/accident.

* Partial damage to houses and huts is possible.

* Possibility of landslides and mudslides.

* Rain is likely to adversely affect humans and livestock and damage vulnerable structures in the coastal areas.
