VARKALA: A major fire broke out at Calaila Resort on Varkala North Cliff. The fire broke out at around 2:30 this afternoon. There were no casualties, but the resort was completely destroyed.
The fire is believed to have started after resort staff burned dry leaves, and strong winds caused sparks to scatter. These sparks are thought to have landed on the resort building, triggering the blaze. The resort had a total of three rooms, and tourists were inside at the time of the incident. They managed to escape safely after noticing the fire.
Locals and Fire Force personnel are continuing efforts to extinguish the fire. The blaze is said to be under control.
