THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Educational institutions in three Kerala districts will remain shut on Wednesday, considering the possibility of heavy rains. The district collector declared holidays for Kannur, Thrissur and Kasaragod on Wednesday.
The holiday will be applicable for professional colleges, CBSE and ICSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, madrasas, anganwadis, and tuition centres. Both Kannur and Kasaragod are on red alert tomorrow, while an orange alert was issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
There is also a change in the rain warning. Today, there is a red alert in four districts. Red alert is in Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts. Tomorrow, there is a red alert in Kannur and Kasaragod districts. The possibility of extremely heavy rainfall is predicted. The Meteorological Department defines 'Extremely Heavy Rainfall' as rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

IMD has declared an orange alert in the above-mentioned districts. The possibility of very heavy rainfall has been predicted in isolated places. The Meteorological Department defines 'Very Heavy Rainfall' as rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
