NEW DELHI: The Election Commission issued a notice to Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi to file an affidavit on the allegations he raised about irregularities in the electoral roll in Karnataka. The Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka has written to Rahul in this regard.
The details of irregularities in the electoral roll were directed to be submitted through an affidavit. A sample affidavit has also been provided for this purpose. The Election Commission also warned of punishment under Section 227 of the BNS for propagating false news bereft of any evidence.
Meanwhile, AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal MP accepted the challenge and said that the leader will soon submit the affidavit. In the press conference, Venugopal said all evidence will be handed over, in high hopes of protecting the democratic ethos of the country.
Rahul Gandhi today alleged a huge rigging in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with the connivance of the Election Commission. Evidence was also released indicating that one lakh fake votes were added in one Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka alone. Following this, the Election Commission challenged the Leader of the Opposition to write about the irregularities in the affidavit.
