THRISSUR: Simi from Thrissur is now set to become the shortest mother in the country. K.K. Simi (36), a native of Ayyanthole, Thrissur, who is just 95 centimetres (3.1 feet) tall, gave birth to a baby boy on June 23. She has now surpassed the previous record held by Kamakshi from Andhra Pradesh, who is 108 cm (3.5 feet) tall.

The baby, weighing 1.685 kilograms, was delivered via cesarean section at Simer Women’s Hospital in Thrissur. A special medical team was formed to manage Simi’s case. Before pregnancy, Simi weighed 34 kilograms. Both mother and baby are now at home and doing well.

Simi, who works at the Ayyanthole Service Cooperative Bank, met her husband Pragesh, a native of Malappuram, through social media. Pragesh, who previously worked in the construction sector, left his job to care for Simi during her hospital stay and at home.

At a press conference, Dr. K. Gopinathan, founder and medical director of Simer Hospital, said that Simi’s pregnancy came with many challenges due to a rare medical condition. Dr. M.D. Chithra Gopinath, CEO Gokul Gopinath, and other doctors also participated in the press meet.
