Treated for diabetes, bleeding from mouth while on train; 10-year-old Sara Chellan from Madurai declared dead

KASARAGOD: A 10-year-old girl who fell unconscious during a train journey died. The deceased has been identified as Sara Chellan, a native of Meikilarpatti, Usilampatti. The child fell unconscious at Kanhangad station while travelling on the Dadar-Tirunelveli Express. Sara was travelling from Mumbai Roha to Madurai with her mother Mayavanam Chellan.

When the train stopped at Kanhangad station to let another train pass, other passengers intervened and let the child down at the station. The girl was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital after she started bleeding from her mouth, but she was declared dead.

Railway officials and Hosdurg police reached the hospital and collected information from the child's mother. The child's family lives in Mumbai. She was treated for diabetes in a hospital in Mumbai. The mother showed the police the medical documents. They had come to Kerala for the child's treatment. The child's father, Chellan, works in Mumbai. The couple has another daughter besides Sara.
