NEW DELHI: Indian cricketer Akash Deep, fresh from a stellar Test series against England, has run into trouble with the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department just days after purchasing his dream car. The Lucknow RTO issued a notice alleging he drove the vehicle without a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP), in violation of regulations. Authorities have directed him not to use the SUV until the registration process is complete.

The cricketer has been given 14 days to respond. The dealership that sold him the car has also been penalised with a one-month suspension for handing over the vehicle without completing registration formalities. Official records show the Toyota Fortuner was sold on August 7, insured the following day, and assigned a fancy number on August 9, but the HSRP and related steps were still pending.

Akash Deep bought a Toyota Fortuner worth Rs 62 lakh just four days ago. He arrived with his family to collect the car and shared pictures on social media with the caption: “Dream come true. Received the keys. With the most loved ones in my life.” Fans as well as teammates from the Indian cricket squad flooded the post with congratulatory messages.

The fast bowler recently made headlines for his performances against England, claiming 13 wickets in three Tests- including five- and four-wicket hauls- and becoming the first Indian since Chetan Sharma in 1986 to take 10 wickets in a single Test in England. He also scored a half-century as a nightwatchman in the final Test.

What is an HSRP?
A High Security Registration Plate is a standardised number plate designed to ensure accurate vehicle identification. It follows specific size, font, and colour requirements set by authorities.
