CHENNAI: A political and social storm has erupted after television serial actor Ravichandran threatened to behead Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president and MP Kamal Haasan for speaking against Sanatana Dharma. It was television serial actor Ravichandran who issued a death threat against Kamal Haasan. MNM representatives have lodged a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner seeking immediate action against Ravichandran for issuing the death threat.
The controversy stems from Kamal Haasan’s speech at the 15th anniversary celebrations of Agaram Foundation, an educational initiative founded by actor Suriya. Lashing out at the NEET examination system, Kamal said, "In this war, only education has the power to change the nation. Education is the only weapon capable of breaking the chains of dictatorship and sanatan."
Following the speech, Ravichandran, in an interview with a YouTube channel, accused Kamal Haasan of insulting Sanatana Dharma and threatened to behead him. The actor’s statement quickly drew condemnation and sparked outrage on social media. Earlier, BJP state secretary Amar Prasad Reddy had also called for a boycott of Kamal Haasan’s films in theatres and on OTT platforms, saying it would “teach him a lesson” for his alleged insult to Sanatana Dharma.
