Probe into BJP sympathisers in Kerala police; aim is to find officer who passed information to Sobha Surendran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Police’s intelligence wing has reportedly been directed to keep a close watch on officers suspected of supporting the BJP. According to a media report, the move aims to identify personnel who pass information to BJP leaders and workers. The top priority is to trace the officer who allegedly called BJP leader Sobha Surendran during a protest and warned that BJP workers would be dealt with. Special instructions have been issued to find the officer quickly, but two days into the search, no one has been identified.

Earlier, most political sympathisers in the police were thought to be from Congress or CPM. However, reports say the number of BJP supporters in the force has grown in recent years. These officers are suspected of leaking information to Sobha Surendran. At a meeting in Thrissur, she claimed that an officer called her before she left for the protest and said, “We are ready to deal with BJP workers. If you have ear problems or fever, don’t stand in the front. Water will be sprayed.” She also claimed that “60% of Kerala Police officers are Modi supporters.”

While the intelligence wing is trying to find the officer who passed information to the BJP, the BJP itself is also trying to trace another policeman. This is in connection with the party’s march to the CPM district committee office in Thrissur, during which BJP city district president Justin Jacob was injured. The search is to identify the policeman who hit Justin Jacob on the head. Although posters with images of the masked officer are circulating in WhatsApp groups, the BJP has not yet been able to identify him.
