THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a possibility of very heavy rain in Kerala today. An orange alert has been declared in two districts. Orange alert is in Kannur and Kasaragod. The possibility of very heavy rain is predicted in isolated places. The IMD Department defines very heavy rainfall as 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rain will be received in 24 hours.
A yellow alert is issued in Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad today. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD means that heavy rain will be received in 24 hours. The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and moderate rain at isolated places in all other districts and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph in the next three hours.
A low-pressure area is located over South Chhattisgarh. It is likely to move west-north westwards and weaken and reach Gujarat as a cyclonic circulation by tomorrow. A new low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest-central Bay of Bengal by tomorrow. In this situation, Kerala will receive heavy rain in the coming days.
Kannur and Kasaragod will be orange alert tomorrow as well. A yellow alert has also been issued in Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Fishing has been banned till tomorrow.
