Rahul Mamkootathil relinquishes Youth Congress president’s post

PATHANAMTHITTA: Rahul Mamkootathil MLA has relinquished his post of youth congress state president. He announced his resignation in the press meet convened at his house this afternoon. He said that he is resigning out of ethics.

It is believed that he resigned as there are no other options. Rahul denied all the allegations leveled against him at the press meet and severely criticized the media. Rahul said that he is resigning not because he has done something wrong. Although he resigned from the Youth Congress state president’s post, he will continue as an MLA.

Meantime, reports say the high command sought the resignation of Rahul. The leadership decided to demand his resignation after it became clear that the revelations made through social media had brought disrepute to the party in the public. Opposition leader V D Satheesan and KPCC president Sunny Joseph had a telephone conversation over the resignation. It is reported that Rahul was asked to resign only after talking to senior leaders. There was also an assessment within the party that protecting Rahul would cause significant losses to the party in the upcoming local body and assembly elections.
