THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Crime Branch team is likely to inform Speaker AN Shamseer about the case against Rahul Mamkootathil MLA today. The move by the Crime Branch comes as the Assembly session is scheduled to begin next week.

A case has been registered against Rahul for stalking women through social media and harassing them. The DGP received ten complaints via email. A special team under the Crime Branch DySP was appointed to investigate the case.

The investigation team has started recording the statements of those who filed complaints against Rahul. The statement of the complainant, Advocate Shinto, has been recorded. Shinto filed the complaint based on media reports. However, the case will only be valid if the victims of such cases file a complaint in person.

The investigation team will verify the authenticity of the audio recordings that have been released, identify the owners of these voices and record their statements. It is estimated that the team can move forward only if the owners of the voices file a complaint in person.

Protests are underway in Palakkad demanding that Rahul resign as MLA in the wake of sexual allegations. However, the Congress has reiterated that it will provide security to Rahul when he arrives in the constituency.
