KOZHIKODE: Dr Shirley Vasu, a prominent forensic surgeon in the state, has passed away. She was 68. She suffered a heart attack Thursday morning and was rushed to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, but her life could not be saved. Her body is kept in the morgue of the medical college hospital.
Dr Shirley Vasu is one of the forensic surgeons, who created a sensation in the state including the Chekannur Moulavi case and the Soumya case. She received the Justice Fathima Beevi Award, the state government's women's award, in 2017.
Shirley hailing from Thodupuzha had been working as the head of the forensic department at a private medical college after retiring from the medical college. She completed her MBBS from Kottayam Medical College in 1979. She did her postgraduation in Kozhikode Medical College.
Shirley Vasu, who started her official service in the forensic medicine department in 1981, was also the head of the department in Thrissur for two years. Shirley also got the opportunity to pursue further studies in 1995 with a fellowship from the World Health Organization. Dr Shirley has also penned a book titled 'Postmortem Table', narrating her professional experiences.
