THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department predicted the chances of heavy rainfall in the state during the coming days. A thunderstorm alert was issued for three days from tomorrow. It has been warned that thunderstorms and strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph are likely in isolated places in Kerala from tomorrow to the 10th. A yellow alert was also issued in various districts.

Yellow Alert

09/09/2025: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki

10/09/2025: Pathanamthitta, Idukki

A yellow alert was issued for the following districts. Isolated heavy rain is expected. Heavy rain is defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

Lightning is dangerous. It can cause great damage to human and animal lives, as well as electrical and communication networks, and household appliances connected to electrical conductors. Therefore, the public should take the following precautions from the moment they first see a thunderstorm. Since lightning is not always visible, do not refrain from taking such precautions.

  • At the first sign of a thunderstorm, move into a safe building as soon as possible. Remaining in open areas increases the risk of being struck by lightning.
  • Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong winds and lightning. Stay away from doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try to minimise contact with walls and floors as much as possible.
  • Unplug household appliances. Avoid being near electrical appliances during a thunderstorm.
  • Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. It is safe to use a mobile phone.
  • If the weather is cloudy, avoid playing outdoors and on terraces, including with children.
