POTHENCODE: A man stabbed his son to death during an argument on Thiruvonam day. Ullas (35), a native of Ulloorkonam near Karyavattom Greenfield Stadium, died in the incident. His father, Unnikrishnan Nair (60), was arrested by the Pothancode police.

The incident took place in Navodaya Nagar, Nalumukku, Ullurkonam. Unnikrishnan Nair told his wife, who lives nearby, about the murder at around 8 am on Sunday. When his wife, Usha, came home, she found her son lying in a pool of blood in the hall. Ullas, who was stabbed deeply in the left shoulder, bled to death.

As per the police, the incident happened during Thiruvonam day, but it came to light only on Sunday.

Unnikrishnan's wife Usha, lived in another house nearby after getting tired of the constant ruckus created by her son and husband in an inebriated state. Unnikrishnan informed his wife, Usha, and a close friend that his son had fallen on the floor, hitting his head, and requested help to take him to the hospital immediately. The neighbour then informed the Pothencode police about the incident.

On the day of Uthradam, Ullas' wife Vidya had gone to her house in Chengannur with her children. No one was at home except Unnikrishnan at the time of the incident. Unnikrishnan, who had initially given contradictory statements, confessed to the crime upon detailed questioning. The dog squad, fingerprint experts and forensics department inspected the spot. The body was sent to the Medical College for postmortem.

The investigation is being led by Pothencode Police SHO Sunil Gopi. The deceased Ullas was a tipper lorry driver. Unnikrishnan is a butcher. Vidya is the wife of the deceased Ullas. Children: Adithyan, Aryan.
