KANNUR: The police have arrested a woman for stealing gold after cleverly tricking the employees of the jewellery shop. The arrested is Ayesha (41) of Dharmadom in Kannur. She stole a chain from a jewellery near Mahe Basilica last Friday. She was arrested with the help of CCTV footages.

She entered the shop and demanded a gold ring. There were many customers in the shop at that time. When the employee was showing her rings, she demanded chains also. She then brought the box of chains and placed it before her. She went through everything and lastly said that she didn’t get the model she liked. When the staff turned to keep the boxes in the showcase, she stole the chain without anyone seeing. Even though no one else saw it, the CCTV installed above her head was seeing everything. She left after asking the staff whether more models are available in the nearby shops.

The owner and employees of the jewelry shop came to know about the loss of the chain while checking the ornaments at night. The thief was found after checking the CCTV. Following the complaint, the Mahe police conducted an investigation and arrested Ayesha from Kannur. The police also recovered the chain she sold in Vadakara.
