MALAPPURAM: Malaria has been confirmed on three of a family in the district. The disease was confirmed on three members of a migrant family staying in a rented house at Ambalappadi village in Wandoor, Malappuram. The three had arrived in Wandoor from Uttar Pradesh four days ago. Preventive activities have presently been intensified in wards 17 and 18 of Wandoor grama panchayat. House-to-house awareness campaigns have also been launched.
Siyaram (71), Greeshma (29) and Ritesh (7), staying in the quarters in Ambalappadi village, were confirmed of Malaria. Subsequently, a vector survey, vector collection and larva collection activities have been started under the leadership of the district vector control unit. Activities such as fever survey; source destruction and health awareness campaigns are also in progress under the leadership of the health workers.
Drinking water tanks and other water sources in houses in the area are being examined under the leadership of the health supervisor. During the inspection conducted last night, the Anopheles mosquito that spreads malaria and its larvae were found. The medical officer also directed that if fever symptoms are seen in the surrounding areas, health workers should be informed immediately.
