THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Air India Express officials have informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that they will increase the number of flights to Kerala by 2026. The officials told the Chief Minister in a meeting held at his Chamber that the number of international flights will be increased to 231 and the number of domestic flights to 245. They informed that the reduction in flight services was 'temporary' and assured that many would be brought back.

The response of the authorities came when the Chief Minister pointed out that Air India Express had significantly reduced its flight services from Kerala in the winter schedule that runs from the end of October to March 26. Pinarayi Vijayan also pointed out that it was discriminating against the public infrastructure of Kerala. CM suggested that it should be ensured that Air India Express, as a national airline with roots in Kerala, does not discriminate against the state and that there should be a consultation mechanism with the state government to prevent such decisions from being taken unilaterally.

Additional Chief Secretary KR Jyothilal has been tasked with discussing and resolving issues related to Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur airports with the airport authorities.
