55-year-old woman killed after being attacked by crocodile

BHUBANESWAR: A 55-year-old woman met with a tragic death after being attacked by a crocodile. The horrific incident took place in Jajpur district in Odisha on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Soudamini Mahala, the wife of Sukadev Mahala. Soudamini was washing clothes in the Kharasrota River when she was attacked by the crocodile. The shocking visuals of the crocodile dragging her into the river have surfaced.

Although locals, who witnessed the attack, screamed for help, the crocodile quickly pulled her underwater. The incident took place at around 3.30 pm, villagers said. The Forest Department has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for Saudamini’s family. Locals said that a goat was dragged away by a crocodile from the same spot a few months ago. Following the incident, forest officials have warned locals not to go near the river.
