Prominent RSS leader PEB Menon passes away

KOCHI: Former RSS Kerala Pranth Sanghchalak P E B Menon (86) passed away. He died around 1:30 p.m. yesterday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital due to health issues.

His body was brought to his residence, Parayath House near Bank Junction, Aluva. Public homage will be held at Aluva Town Hall today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral will take place at 3 p.m. at the Tantravidhyapeedham, Veliathanadu, Aluva.

P E B Menon is survived by his wife Vijayalakshmi, children Vishnuprasad (Balan & Co., Aluva) and Vishnupriya (Teacher, Bhavan’s School, Eroor).

Menon, who headed the well-known chartered accountancy firm Balan & Company, entered public service through his association with P Madhavji and the Kerala Temple Protection Committee. Later, he became active in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

He became the Kerala Pranth Sanghchalak in 2003 and served in that position for nearly two decades. He also held positions such as Aluva District Sanghchalak and Ernakulam Vibhag Sanghchalak, and was appointed Sah-Prant Sanghchalak in 1999. He served as National Vice President of Seva Bharathi and Managing Director of Vishwasevabharathi.

Menon was a guiding force behind many service initiatives in Aluva, including the Aluva Grama Seva Samiti, which led projects like Mathruchhaya. He was also active in organisations such as Tantravidhyapeedham, Bala Samskara Kendra, Dr Hedgewar Memorial Seva Samiti, International Srikrishna Kendra, and Rashtradharma Parishad. He also served as the Managing Director of the Vishwashanthi Foundation, founded by actor Mohanlal.
