KOCHI: Police identified the car that failed to stop after hitting a student of Elamakkara Bhavans Vidya Bhavan, who was returning from school on a bicycle. The owner of the car is a businessman living in Kadavanthra. The Elamakkara police asked the businessman, a native of Kayamkulam, to appear at the station with the car on Monday morning.

An 11th-grade student, Dikshitha (16), daughter of Prashanth Kumar of Halifax Enclave near Puthukkalavattom Mahadeva Temple, was seriously injured in an accident that occurred near the school on the evening of the 15th. Locals rushed Dikshitha to the hospital in Palarivattom and then admitted her to Aster Medicity.

It is reported that the accident occurred when the car owner was driving home with his own child, who was studying at Bhavans School. The businessman was accompanied by his wife and child in the car. He admitted to the police that he was going home from school with his child. However, the businessman said that he didn’t even notice the vehicle hitting the bicycle, which led to the accident.

The police identified the license plate number of the car that caused the accident by examining about 30 CCTV cameras in the Bhavans School area and in the Punnakkal Ambalam, Deshabhimani Road and Perandoor Road areas. Dikshitha, who suffered internal bleeding, is still under observation in the hospital. Elamakkara police said that the bicycle will be subjected to forensic examination.
