KANNUR: A woman has been arrested for stealing from a supermarket during a fire at the K.V. Complex near the Taliparamba bus stand. As locals rushed to extinguish the flames, the burqa-clad woman entered Nabras Supermarket and took advantage of the chaos.

She allegedly stole goods worth around Rs 10,000 from the supermarket before blending into the crowd helping to douse the fire. CCTV footage showing her taking items from the store had surfaced earlier.

Following a complaint lodged by the supermarket management, the police traced and arrested the woman. She is a resident of a nearby panchayat in Taliparamba. The police did not proceed with further legal action; instead, she was released after repaying the value of the stolen items.
