THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the intervention of BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, new stops have been allowed for major express trains in Kerala. Train No. 16319/16320 Thiruvananthapuram North SMVT Bengaluru Humsafar Express has been allowed to stop at Kayamkulam station.
Train No 16350 Nilambur Road Thiruvananthapuram North Rajya Rani Express will stop at Karunagappally station. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw allowed the new stops following a petition submitted by Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The Railway Minister, in a letter to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, said that the long-standing demands have been approved. The Humsafar Express is a popular train that connects the capitals of Kerala and Karnataka twice a week. The Rajya Rani Express is a train that operates daily within Kerala.
Earlier, the Kannur-Thiruvananthapuram Jana Shatabdi was allowed a stop at Changanassery. This was announced by the local MP Kodikunnil Suresh. The train, which will depart from Kannur at 4.50 am, will reach Thiruvananthapuram at 2.10 pm. The Jana Shatabdi currently stops at Thalassery, Vadakara, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur, Thrissur, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Thiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikkara, Kayamkulam and Kollam stations.
