COIMBATORE: A man was stabbed to death in the maternity ward of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). The deceased was identified as Vijay (29) from Virudachalam. Race Course police arrested Vignesh (23) from Neelikonampalayam in the incident.
Vijay and Vignesh came to the hospital for their wives' delivery. The two became friends. Vignesh and Vijay's wives were in the same ward. Vignesh and Vijay used to go to a TASMAC near the hospital and drink. Vijay used to fight with Vignesh after drinking. Vijay even threatened to kill Vignesh if he walked in front of him.
Vijay had assaulted Vignesh in a drunken stupor on October 11. Vignesh's wife left the hospital on October 13 after giving birth. However, to avenge Vijay's beating, Vignesh came to the hospital on Friday night with a knife from the butcher shop where he works. Vignesh called Vijay out, who was sleeping near the maternity ward, but Vijay refused to come. When the security guard tried to send the accused out of the ward, Vijay picked up a PVC pipe and assaulted Vignesh.
The two then got into a fight and Vignesh stabbed Vijay with a knife he was carrying. He stabbed Vijay 12 times in chest, throat, abdomen and ear. Vijay died on the spot. The accused Vignesh was caught by the security personnel and those present at the hospital and handed over to the police.
