Very heavy rain predicted; districts warned, wind speed of 40 kmph likely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a change in rain warning in the state. Orange alert has been issued in ten districts today. Orange alert is in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. The possibility of very heavy rain is predicted in isolated places. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) defined very heavy rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.


A yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kannur and Kasaragod today. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Rain with thunderstorms is expected.


There is a possibility of heavy rain with thunderstorm and strong winds reaching a speed of up to 40 kmph at isolated places in Pathanamthitta in the next three hours. The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of light/moderate rain with thunderstorm and strong winds reaching a speed of up to 40 kmph at isolated places in all other districts.


A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow and for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod the day after tomorrow.
