Extreme rainfall expected in coming hours; IMD issues orange alert for districts in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department issued orange and yellow alerts in various districts in view of the heavy rains in the state. An orange alert was issued for Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted in isolated places.

27/10/2025: Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad

28/10/2025: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam

The Indian Meteorological Department defines heavy rain as a situation where rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is expected in 24 hours. Rain accompanied by thundershowers is expected.

  • Those living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides, and mountain floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
  • Those living on riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also anticipate the danger and move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
  • Those living in disaster-prone areas should definitely ensure that camps are open in their area and move there during the day. For this, they can contact the local government and revenue authorities.
