Heavy rain in seven districts for three hours, orange alert issued, strong winds likely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Very heavy rain is likely in seven districts in the state in the coming hours. Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur (orange alert in next three hours only) are likely to experience heavy rain with thunderstorms and strong winds up to 40 kmph at isolated places; all other districts are likely to experience light/moderate rain and strong winds up to 40 kmph at isolated places, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said.

  • Waterlogging on main roads/blurred vision in vehicles is likely, leading to traffic congestion.
  • Waterlogging/flooding is likely in low-lying areas and river banks.
  • Falling of trees may lead to power outages/accidents.
  • Partial damage to houses and huts likely.
  • Landslides and mudslides possible.
  • Rainfall is likely to adversely affect humans and livestock and damage vulnerable structures in the coastal area.
