
PATHANAMTHITTA: Three taluks will observe a regional holiday tomorrow (Monday) on the occasion of Parumala Perunnal. Regional holidays have been declared in Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district & Mavelikkara and Chengannur taluks in Alappuzha district. The District Collectors had earlier issued orders granting local holidays to all government offices and educational institutions in these taluks. Meanwhile, the Collectors have informed that the holiday will not apply to pre-scheduled public examinations.
The Parumala Perunnal festival in 2025 marks the 123rd anniversary of the death (memorial feast) of Saint Geevarghese Mar Gregorios Thirumeni, popularly known as Parumala Thirumeni. He passed away on November 2, 1902, and was declared a saint on November 2, 1947. He was the first person of Indian origin to be canonised as a saint by an Indian church. The flag for the Parumala festival was hoisted on October 26. A grand celebration is being held tomorrow, the concluding day. A holiday has been declared in three taluks tomorrow in this context.
