THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The family of a woman who died of an infection after giving birth has come out with more allegations against the SAT Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. The deceased is Sivapriya (26), a native of Karikkakom. Speaking to a media outlet, Sivapriya's husband Manu said that after the delivery, the doctor performed the stitches in an unclean manner and that the infection originated from the hospital.
Sivapriya delivered her baby on October 22 and was discharged on the 25th. She developed a fever on the 26th and was brought back to the hospital. As her condition worsened, she was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. She died this afternoon while undergoing treatment.
“She had no health issues at all. She walked in for the delivery. When she was discharged, she already had a slight fever. They did not examine her properly before sending her home. The next day her fever increased, so we returned to the hospital. After examining her, they said the stitches had broken. If the stitches had broken, wouldn’t she have been in pain? They called me only after she felt dizzy. Until then, she had been talking normally. After that, she became weaker day by day. Later, she was put on a ventilator. Yesterday, they inserted a feeding tube, and after that, she never opened her eyes. The infection came from the hospital, I have the report with me,” Manu said.
The relatives staged a protest in front of the hospital with the newborn.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Veena George has ordered an inquiry against SAT Hospital in connection with the woman’s death. She instructed a special team to investigate and submit a report within two days. The directive has been given to the Director of Medical Education.
