Empuraan is the second part of Lucifer, one of the all-time super hit films in Malayalam, which brought together Mohanlal and Prithviraj. The film was released on March 7, 2025. The film entered the 200 crore club globally. It achieved this feat while the film's controversies continued.
Now, Prithviraj Sukumaran has come out with a response to the controversies surrounding the film. In an interview given to an online media outlet, Prithviraj revealed his stance on the controversies for the first time. Prithviraj says that he did not intend to make any political statement through his film.
"I did not make that film with a specific intention. I am aware of that. When I heard the story of the film, I liked it and did it. For me, Empuraan had only one intention, which was to entertain the audience. If I have failed in that, then it is my failure as a director.
"I will never do a film to make a political statement. There is no need to spend crores to make a film for that. Just putting a statement on social media is enough. There is no need to make such a big film for that. As long as I am honest with myself, if I have that conviction within me, then I have nothing to be sad about or afraid of anyone," Prithviraj said.
