THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mahila Morcha leader Shalini Anil, who attempted suicide after being denied a seat in the local body elections, will contest as a BJP candidate in the Nedumangad municipality. She will be contesting from Panayikkottala. Shalini attempted suicide early on Sunday morning but was rushed to the hospital and rescued. Shalini Anil had told the media that she could not bear the personal attacks of RSS leaders.

“They carried out a slander campaign targeting me. They fabricated stories so vile that I was not even able to get out of my house. Many people, including my husband and I, were informed of the stories being propagated against me.

Some people were so adamant that they even started work to defeat me if I were to contest in the elections. The local RSS leadership opposed my candidacy. I couldn’t bear the humiliation, so I thought it would be better to end my life rather than suffer.

I will talk with the leadership and will carry out plans according to what they say,” said Shalini.

Shalini has been active in campaigning for BJP in the Panayikkottala ward. When the candidate selection was completed, Shalini was removed from the list. Shalini attempted suicide after she received news that BJP was zeroing in on another candidate from the region.
