KOTTAYAM: More details emerged in the murder of 23-year-old Adarsh, who was stabbed to death in Manikkunnam. The shocking incident took place at around 4:30 am today. The police took former Kottayam Municipal Councillor Anil Kumar and his son Abhijith into custody in connection with the murder. It was earlier reported that Adarsh and Abhijith were involved in drug dealing.

Abhijith had bought MDMA from Adarsh, promising Adarsh that he would pay for it later. With the payment delayed, Adarsh, a native of Puthuppally, arrived at Anilkumar's residence in Manikkunnam, and a verbal altercation ensued.

The talks morphed into a fight, and Adarsh was stabbed in the melee. The police caught both Anilkumar and Abhijith while they were trying to escape after committing the crime. They are being questioned by the Kottayam West police. The police also collected CCTV footage of the incident.

Abhijith and Adarsh are history sheeters, involved in drug cases. Abhijith is an accused in one theft case and four drug cases. Adarsh was an accused in two drug cases. Anilkumar is a former Congress councillor in Kottayam Municipality. This year, Anilkumar made moves to leave the Congress and contest as an LDF candidate. Locals say that the move did not succeed after the CPM opposed it.
