MUMBAI: The wedding of Indian cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal has become a major topic of discussion on social media after it was reportedly called off. Initial reports said the wedding was postponed because Smriti’s father suffered a heart attack. Later, there were also reports that Palash Muchhal was admitted to a hospital due to an infection. However, soon after news of the cancellation, screenshots of chats said to be linked to Palash went viral online.
The leaked chats appear to show private conversations between Palash and a woman named Mary D’Costa. In the chats, he is seen inviting her to spend time with him at a swimming pool and spa. Social media users are claiming that these chats are the main reason the wedding was called off. But neither Smriti nor Palash has made any public statement on the matter.
Some entertainment portals have reported that Mary D’Costa is a choreographer who leads dance performances at wedding events. She gained attention only after the chats with Palash surfaced online. According to some media reports, the screenshots reportedly reached one of Smriti’s relatives, and this is what led to the marriage being cancelled.
Following the postponement of the wedding, Smriti has removed all wedding-related posts from her social media accounts. Celebration videos shared by her close friend and Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues have also been deleted. This includes the video of Palash proposing to Smriti at the DY Patil Stadium, shortly after the Indian women’s team won the World Cup there.
