Nine-year-old Devaprayag succumbs to injuries sustained in Nilamel accident, donates organs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Devaprayag, who sustained injuries in an accident that happened in Nilamel on December 15, has succumbed to it. His organs were donated after being declared brain dead. He is the son of Bichu Chandran and C M Akhila of Nedumbrath House in Thirumala.

The boy’s five organs (kidney, liver, heart valve, and two eyeballs) were donated. His kidney and liver were donated to a patient at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, eyeballs to a patient at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology in Thiruvananthapuram, and the heart valve to a patient at the Sree Chithra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram. Health Minister Veena George paid tributes to Devaprayag and shared the grief of the family.


Devaprayag's father Bichu Chandran and his friend Sathish Venugopal died on the spot in the accident that happened at Nilamel in Kollam while returning from Sabarimala. Devprayag, who sustained serious injuries was in a very serious condition and was admitted at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He was declared brain dead yesterday and his family members expressed their willingness to donate his organs.


The car in which Devprayag was travelling collided with a KSRTC bus heading towards Kottarakkara.


Devprayag is a third-grade student at Shantiniketan School. Devprayag's mother Akhila is an RTO office employee in the Collectorate.
