
BENGALURU: Nine people were killed and many injured after a truck and a bus collided at Chitradurga in Karnataka. The accident happened early Thursday morning at 2.30 am. The bus was carrying 29 passengers. The bus that was heading towards Gokarna from Bengaluru met with the accident.
Seven jumped out from the bus. The death toll is likely to rise. The injured has been admitted to the hospital. The accident happened when the lorry jumped the divider and crashed into the bus coming from the other side. In the impact, the sleeper coach caught fire and many passengers were trapped inside. The bus was engulfed in flames. Reports say the negligence of the lorry driver led to the accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of those killed and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
