Body of Mohanlal’s mother brought to Thiruvananthapuram, people flock to pay tributes

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Many including prominent figures from the film and cultural sectors, arrived to pay tributes to actor Mohanlal's mother Shanthakumari, who passed away last afternoon. Chief Secretary Dr A Jayathilak, film producers M Ranjith, Suresh Kumar, actors Suresh Krishna, Santhosh K Nair and former mayor Arya Rajendran reached the house in Mudavanmugal Wednesday morning to pay homage. She will be laid to rest at 4 pm in the same compound where Mohanlal's father K Viswanathan Nair and brother Pyarelal were buried.


Shanthakumari, who was undergoing treatment for old age ailments, passed away at her residence at Elamakkara in Kochi around 1:30 pm yesterday. The body was brought to her residence in Mudavanmugal, Thiruvananthapuram by road last night. The ambulance, which left Kochi at 10:30 pm, reached Thiruvananthapuram early this morning.

Actors Mammootty, Dileep, Jayasurya, Keerthy Suresh, Divya Unni, Ananya, Minister P Rajeev, opposition leader V D Satheesan and many other prominent figures from the film and political fields paid homage when the body was kept at the actor’s house in Elamakkara last evening.

Mohanlal, who reached Kerala after receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, visited his mother first. Mohanlal had celebrated his mother’s 89th birthday last year. The celebrations were held at the house in Elamakkara in the presence of his close relatives and friends and such as Major Ravi, Antony Perumbavoor, etc.
