Drug bust on New Year’s Day in capital city, doctor, BDS student among arrested

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Drug bust in the capital city on New Year's Day. The police arrested seven people, including a doctor and a BDS student, in a drug bust in Kaniyapuram. Dr Vignesh Dathan (34) of Attakkulangara in East Fort, Haleena (27) of Kottarakkara and a BDS student, Asim (29) of Mannurkonam in Nedumangad, Avinash (29) of Ayoor in Kollam, Ajith (30) of Tholikode, Ansia (37) of Palode; and Harish (29) of Elamadu in Kollam were arrested by the Attingal and Nedumangad rural Dansaf team. Avinash is an IT employee.

They were arrested from a rented house in Thoppil area, Kaniyapuram. Asim, Ajith and Ansia are accused in several drug cases in the past. The three brought drugs from Bengaluru. According to the police, they were distributing drugs to professional students and doctors. Four grams of MDMA, one gram of hybrid cannabis and 100 grams of regular cannabis were recovered from the accused. Two cars, two bikes and ten mobile phones of the accused have also been seized. The accused have been handed over to the Kadinamkulam police.

The accused were arrested after surrounding the house. Although they tried to arrest the group led by Asim who was travelling in a car last night, they escaped after hitting the police jeep. In further investigation, it was found that they were staying in a rented house in Kaniyapuram area. Following this, the police surrounded the house. The police are trying to find out if there are more people in the group.
