PERUNNA: NSS General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair said Sabarimala issue should not be mixed up with politics, it is a matter of protecting faith and that the politicians should have this awareness. He was explaining the organization's activities at the All-Kerala Nair Representative Conference at the NSS headquarters in Perunna as part of the Mannam Jayanti celebrations. Nair clarified that he participated in the global Ayyappa Sangam held in Pampa after the government changed their stand on the issue of women entry in Sabarimala and that some verminous creatures within his own community are working against the organization.
‘The stand of the NSS is to protect rituals and faith in God. The rituals at the Sabarimala temple, where people of all castes and religions can freely visit, should continue as before. When the state government tried to bring changes in the rituals based on court order, the NSS had to oppose it. Understanding the feelings of the believers, the government changed its stance on the Sabarimala issue. It created conditions for devotees to have darshan while observing the rituals. The believers were happy with this change of stance.
The government took the initiative and convened a conference in Pampa involving global Ayyappa devotees. NSS also had a moral responsibility to participate in it. That is when the parties that had abstained from the agitation came out to exploit the NSS’ stand by portraying it as political. NSS has no politics. Its members can accept any politics. The organization is equidistant, said Sukumaran Nair.
The misinformation being spread by placing political interests in the gold theft in the Sabarimala temple is wrong. Whoever the culprits are, there are government mechanisms and courts to find them. They are fulfilling their responsibility properly. He said only if there is any lapse in it should others intervene.
