KOTTAYAM: Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala completely ignored Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who had come to participate in the Mannam Jayanti celebrations. The video of the incident is already being widely circulated on social media. When Chennithala stood up, Rahul tried to talk to him, but Chennithala walked away without giving face to Rahul.

Rahul was suspended from the party when the sexual harassment allegations were raised. Rahul was expelled from the primary membership of the party after a woman complained to the Chief Minister and another woman came forward with a complaint. Rahul, who had gone into hiding after the case was filed, went out to vote in the local body elections after the court stopped his arrest. The way Congress workers welcomed Rahul that day had drawn severe criticism.

Rahul was sitting with Chennithala in Perunna along with Congress leaders P J Kurien, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, P C Vishnunath and M K Raghavan. Senior leader PJ Kurien had demanded that Rahul not be given a seat to contest the upcoming elections. Rahul directly expressed his dissatisfaction with this. In an interview given to a private channel, PJ Kurien said that Rahul should not be given a seat, but that seats should be given to the youth and that certain criteria should be made while giving such a seat.
